Recipes from our Last Meeting

Thanks to everyone who showed up Tuesday - it was a great turnout! I am glad I have a lot of bowls, lol.

Remember some of our upcoming topics - making buddy burners, solar cooking, gardening, making English muffins, and generators. If you have more topics, send them my way and we will find someone who knows them. I personally think we need a good first aid refresher course.

Tuesday night our little cardboard ovens made bread, rolls, monkey bread, cake, biscuits and baked chicken! We all ended the night full.

Thank you, Marty and Janet, for bringing your oven and preparing all of that food for us, we appreciate it.

The recipe below is called basic for a reason - it is barebones. You can experiment and look on line and find all kinds of bread recipes. Keep trying them until you find the one you really, really like.

Basic White Bread

Around 4 cups white flour
1 TB yeast
2 TB sugar
1 TB oil
about 1 1/3 c warm water

Mix all of the ingredients except 2 C flour. Save that for later. Remember to let your mixture "sponge" to develop the gluten. Add flour to knead by hand until it is glossy and it "looks" like a loaf :-) You can let it rise once and punch down to rise again, or just let it rise one time. Again, experiment and do what works for you. You can make them into rolls or cinnamon rolls if you want. Bake the bread at 375. Rolls can be baked at 425.

The recipe for the Olive Garden Breadsticks can be found HERE. Enjoy, they are really yummy.

Back in the Saddle Again

This Thursday - 6:30pm!!

Mark your calendar - we are restarting our Monthly Provident Living Meetings.

Our square-foot gardener has a scheduling conflict, so this Thursday we will be practicing how to bake breads without any electricity...what?!? No bread mixer? That's right. AND no oven.

Come see how it is done.

It may - or may not - be a resounding success.

BUT you won't want to miss it either way.

Bring a friend or two - we will have a great time.
