Quotes from the Prophets

“Should the Lord decide at this time to cleanse the Church ... a famine in this land of one year's duration could wipe out a large percentage of sloughful members, including some ward and stake officers. Yet we cannot say we have not been warned.”

Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, April 1965)

“On the average, about 30 percent of the church has a two-month supply of food. The remainder have little or none...become self-sufficient as possible to prepare against the days to come.”

Bishop H. Burke Peterson (General Conference October 1975)

“I stand before the Church this day and raise the warning voice. It is a prophetic voice, for I shall say only what the apostles and the prophets have spoken concerning our day. ...It is a voice calling upon the Lord's people to prepare for the troubles and desolations which are about to be poured upon the world without measure. For the moment, we live in a day of peace and prosperity but it shall not ever be thus. Great trials lie ahead. All of the sorrows and perils of the past are but a foretaste of what is yet to be. And we must prepare ourselves temporally and spiritually.”

Bruce R. McConkie (General Conference April 1979

The "Bread"

We had a pretty good turnout tonight - you need to let those know who didn't come how much food you ate and make them insanely jealous. Really. Go for it.

Since I was busy with my hands in dough and chatting (what, me?) - I am going to link you to the following site and site for detailed instructions on tonight's recipe. My sister is much more organized when it comes to posting detailed instructions. I tend to skip over stuff.

Don't forget we will have another session using sweet breads for yummy desserts.

Did you get enough to eat?? I know I did, I feel so full I really need to get some sleep.

Also.......the Emergency Essential and Food Storage Center orders have been placed. Doors closed. Finatta. Until the next order that is.

However, I do have 3 cans of Strawberries that need to be sold.....$13.00/ea. Let me know. It is first come, first serve.

I have had some requests for meetings to come - I will try my best to accommodate.

How are we doing on buying can goods when they are on sale? That is the easiest way to build your food storage. Just remember.....

Food Storage Center Order

**This will not be the only order organized for the year. We are hoping to be able to place several orders throughout 2011. You can prepare your future food storage in wisdom and in good order.

**Orders are to be placed no later than Sunday, February 13, 2011. No late orders will be accepted. You can fax (501-268-4029), email (susiemcgrath@gmail.com), or snailmail (7 Jenny Lynne Drive, Searcy AR 72143).

**If an item is available prepackaged, please order them that way instead of bulk.

**You can only order food and materials in the following areas: BULK, PREPACKAGED ITEMS, and BULK PACKAGING MATERIALS. Oxygen packets can only be sold in 100 packs, so go in with a friend if you need to. If you order bulk and want to can it, you will need to figure out how many cans and lids you will need. Please call or email before the deadline with any questions you may have.

**There will be a shipping fee to help pay for gas. It will depend on the number of pounds ordered, so please keep that in mind. I won’t know how much we will be paying until I get all the orders in.

**Do not send money with your order. After you place your order I will contact you regarding payment, delivery, and pickup. However, it is anticipated we will have the food within a week or two from the date of order.

**We will schedule use of the canner when we get the food.

You can find the order form HERE.

Recap

Thanks to all of you who braved the freezing weather to attend our meeting last night. Boy, was it cold!

Thanks to David Clark for the chicken demonstration (very enlightening) and to Janet for the yummy chicken dishes. I have a favorite, but I won't tell you which one.

Are we inspired yet?

We didn't get a chance to go over our grocery lists to see what we could cut from our "convenience" side. Let's plan on that next time, shall we?

As promised - those of you who took some samples home.......

Recipes to use with the dehydrated peanut butter can be found HERE.

Instructions for the dehydrated refried beans:

Bring ¾ cup of water to a boil. Add 1 cup dried bean flakes. Stir. Cover and simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Stir before serving.

Consider: Chocolate Syrup

Hershey's Chocolate Syrup:
high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, coco, sugar, potasssium sorbate, salt, mono-and diglycerides, xanthan gum, polysorbate 60, vanillin, artificial flavor.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup:
cocoa, water, sugar, salt, vanilla

HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE SYRUP

½ cup cocoa powder
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
⅛ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon vanilla

Mix the cocoa powder and the water in a saucepan. Heat and stir to dissolve the cocoa. Add the sugar, and stir to dissolve. Boil for 3 minutes over medium heat. Be careful not to let it get too hot and boil over! Add the salt and the vanilla. Let cool. Pour into a clean glass jar, and store in the refrigerator. Keeps for several months, but trust me it will be gone before then. Yields two cups
